5Great Tuner.  Jan 14, 2010
By A. Politano
The Korg CA-1 is a chromatic tuner which allows you to tune in any key. It features a quarter-inch jack for input and a "+" and "-" key for tuning in another pitch close to what you're in. Say I was in G and wanted to go to G1. Hit the "+" button a couple times, and bam it's now calibrated for that pitch. It comes standard with a small condenser mic built in so you can tune a woodwind instrument, trumpet, acoustic guitar or small squirrel. Whatever you need to tune. Super simple and easy to use, Korg has a reputation for producing the best tuners on the market. Weather it's rackmount tuning you need or the cheap-o $20 CA-1 Korg has you covered. My first one worked until it was lost during a show. I am willing to put money down that it would have worked up until now when I needed to buy another.

To the review that says it's "Tinny" sounding...Dude, that's stupid. It's a tuner. It doesn't have an OUTPUT! You plug in your guitar or bass and tune. You can't say that a tuner has any kind of real sound, since you're not really playing through it. A stomp-box pedal tuner may sound "tinny", but that may only be because it might not be true bypass circuitry used. Anyways, this is a great product and completely mandatory if you play an instrument.

5Tuner  Dec 23, 2009
By Mackinaw
Purchased this item for my daughter for High School marching/concert band. The small size is great as it fits well into jeans or uniform pocket, aslo fits well into flute case to bring home for practice. Owner 7-8 weeks, would buy again.

3Did a Good Job  Oct 01, 2010
By F. DELEON "Franko"
I had ordered the CA1 and CA-40 at the same time, but received the CA1 first, so I used it to tune our baby grand Wurlitzer (first time ever for me to tune a piano). The CA1 worked well indicating whether a string was solid on the note (green only LED) indicated on the display, or off the note (green and red LEDs). The great thing about the red LEDs on either side of the green is they tell you whether to tighten the pin more (when red LED to left of green is lit, i.e., string too loose) or loosen the pin some (when red LED to right of green is lit, i.e., string too tight). The first pass of tuning the piano took five and half hours, but to be fair, the piano was grossly in need of a tune. The CA1 did not pick up the higher octaves or the lower octaves but if you are patient and have "a good ear," you can tune, by ear, the octaves outside of the CA1's range. The CA-40 picks up more octaves than the CA1 (see my review) which speeds up the tuning process, but the octaves outside of the CA-40's range, though fewer, have to be tuned by ear, too. For the price difference, the CA-40 is a MUCH better buy for piano tuning.

Hint: Turn the CA1 or CA-40 upside down. If the string is too loose, the left LED will light but because you turned the tuner upside down, the LED will be to the right of the green LED... rightey tightey...leftey loosey...

5CATION BEFORE YOU BUY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Jul 03, 2011
By Courtney
This is an amazing tuner! You can buy one of these easily from almost any music store but I like to buy stuff from amazon anyway. However, IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A TUNER FOR GUITAR OR BASS, DO NOT BUY THIS TUNER! I play guitar, clarinet, piano, and tenor sax, I bought a guitar/bass tuner thinking "hey, its a tuner! and its cheep, it will work for all insterments!" But now I know that a chromatic tuner is meant for woodwinds, brass, piano, and SOME string insterments(i.e. violins, cellos, violas ect.) So whatever tuner you end up buying, I also suggeget getting the Korg CM-100L Clip On Contact Microphone that plugs into this, and many other, tuners because this tuner is very sensitive and will pick up almost any background noise, with the microphone, it filters out unwanted noise, so if you play in concerts or in noisy places, I suggest the mic. :) good luck!

4Great Tuner, Hard To See Screen  Jul 07, 2010
By Les Smith
I really like this tuner. My only complaint is that it's somewhat hard to see the screen. It tunes great though. I tuned my four guitars and my daughter's two guitars all within about 20 minutes. This is the same model that our local guitar repair technician uses on the bench.
