No way is this 100% wool! Sep 29, 2009
By Tim Conrad This is a very cheaply made knock-off of a real navy watch cap. There is no way this thin hat is made of 100% wool. I'd say it is 100% acrylic. This is the worst rip-off I have received from an amazon.com company.

Must be saving material expenses! Sep 09, 2009

This hat is so small that they must have used the rest of the material on a matching pair of gloves and sold it separately. What used to be a large, nowadays seems to be extra small. Are they trying to save material? This product is so tight and small it would fit an 8 year old. My advice is to go to a store and try on some hats. This was a waste of time and money.

Genuine U.S.Navy Wool Watch Cap Jan 23, 2009
By BritBea The photo shows a hat with thick yarn, with a chunky, sturdy look to it.
The actual item was knitted with thin yarn and when held up to put on, you could see daylight between all the stitches. It would not keep any U.S. Navy person warm for long.
Service:
Hat $6.95
Shipping and handling$6.30
Return shipping by me (first class) $1.51
Return fee: 15%
I consider this gouging to a point of dishonesty. It only cost me $1.50 to mail it back; that's a bit much for 'handling'. The returns policy, slicing off another 15%, was not displayed in full on the ordering page.
I am disappointed in the product and DISGUSTED with the service.

This hat is "OK" Mar 13, 2007
By Consumer Wisdom The manufacturing quality is good, but it is not a thick, super warm hat like I had hoped for. I wore it to go skiing on a moderately cold day (~20F) and it really didn't keep my head as warm as I had hoped. It would be fine to wear while running winter-time errands or going out to the wood pile to get wood. The better choice is the ragg wool hat sold by the same company. I got one for my teenage son on the same order, and it was by far the thicker, warmer hat.

Looks Good, but Lighter Wool than Cap of Yesteryear Nov 30, 2009
By M. Kenney This replaces a watch cap issued by USAF in 1979. I wanted to stick with wool rather than a synthetic; wool still insulates when wet. The new cap looks like it's good quality, although not as heavy as my old one. I won't know if it's as warm as the old one until we get some really cold weather.
Update: Made it through a really bad winter. The cap really IS as warm as my old one, and I'm upgrading the rating to 5 stars. Glad I got two of them, because one went through the laundry and came out child-size.
