I LOVE cool tools! Aug 09, 2006
By M. Cobb Dont you love it when a product:
-does what it claims
-does it well
-is a good deal?
I used my PlanetWaves Pro for the first time last night. The pin puller works smoothly, and the string winder doesnt come unscrewed constantly like every other one I've owned!
The componenet that really made my day was the string cutter. The 'blade' aint that sharp, but easily whacks the end of a low E string. Since there is only a little exposed metal, all of which is smooth and rounded, the risk of scratching your guitar is minimal, and the small cutting head makes it easy to trim the string very close to the peg.
The Pro String Winder appears to be well built, and I suspect that it will last me quite a while. Even if if conks out in a year (not that I think it will), its a good bargain, and I'll buy another.
Great product!

Great idea that works well Jan 15, 2007

The string winder is larger and more comfortable to hold that any of the 'cheap' winders you buy at music stores. The winder part has smooth motion and the cutter works much better than expected. I thought maybe it would bend the strings rather than cut them. But so far, it snips cleanly through the strings and gets pretty close tot he peg head. If you change strings a lot, I would also recommend to yout he Planet Waves Headstand.

Very easy to use. Feb 27, 2009
By Y. Song I love the pin puller the most. The bottom of it is very thin so that it slides under the pin very easily. This was something that was not as easy to use on my $2.50 string winder.
The cutter was also fun to use. Snips very easily, but the grip is not that easy to maneuver. Still it is a very effective tool.
The string winder was also very good. My hands don't move in a perfect circular motion, and no where near it either, but this seems to help me achieve that fairly well, compared to my $2.50 string winder.
I would definitely recommend this product to anyone who is planning on changing strings.

Great, even for a beginner like me Jul 20, 2010
By Christopher Fox I am a guitar string changing 'newbie' but these things make it so easy. I just bought these and watched a video on youtube about how to do it (sadly after I let my cousin try and he broke a string) and its so easy. I changed all the strings within about 20 min. This tool does everything you need. Plus its small so I carry it around with my little bag that has picks, a tuner, a metronome, extra strings etc. Good price, I would recommend it.

Does what it needs to do Oct 22, 2009

Just did a full change out of my 1966 RIC 330/12 with one of these and man did it help. For those of you that are not familiar with that particular level of frustration, it is widely accepted to be the biggest pain in the tail-feathers known to guitar-dom.
Again, it is just a good string winder and a good string cutter, but the all-in-1-ness of this device makes it a 5 star lead pipe cinch for gotta have it items in each guitar case I own.
Does what it is supposed to do
Does it well
One hand use is possible
